Vocalist Lola Young has filed a lawsuit targeting the beatmaker responsible for her popular track Messy in a dispute concerning songwriting credits.

The English singer has filed a creative rights court claim against Carter Lang, with her lawyers stating she had "no choice" following he alleged composition credits on several from her catalog, which she "categorically disputes".

The US producer and music writer has so far not responded.

The lawsuit was filed in the UK capital for the singer and her music publisher this past Wednesday. It happened shortly after she postponed all performances "for now", subsequent to a fainting episode during a performance in New York.

Metoric Rise

The singer shot to fame near the close of 2024 at the time Messy became a viral hit.

It spent a month as the chart-topper and ranks as the second most popular track this year to date within the United Kingdom.

Legal Statement

"It is with great regret, particularly considering the latest incidents, that we were forced no choice but to address recent allegations about credits made by Carter Lang regarding four Lola Young songs through initiating a lawsuit representing her."

"The assertions are strongly refuted and we will not allow her good name and principles to be challenged - especially long after the recording sessions and agreements were put in place."

"The artist has always remained authentic in her creative work and recognizes co-writing efforts where appropriate."

"This conflict has been ongoing for quite some time and we anticipate the facts coming to light."

The artist's team refused to specify which songs exactly were involved in the dispute.
