China's Ice Dancers Under Probe Following Holding Prop Weapon during Competition
ISU officials are conducting an investigation following two Chinese figure skaters were seen holding an object resembling a replica weapon at a grand prix figure skating event.
Broadcast footage showed the skaters sitting with a large toy shaped like a rocket marked “DF-61” while waiting for the judges' results at the “kiss and cry” area during the event.
This model is a new Chinese-made land-based long-range weapon capable of transporting atomic warheads, which was displayed at a military parade last month.
Officials is aware of an unsuitable plush item appears to have been one of the objects thrown on to the rink by spectators following a performance during the competition,” the ISU commented via a release.
The item was subsequently held by the skaters who had just performed. The ISU apologizes for this occurrence and will investigate further.”
The duo finished eighth out of ten teams during the ice dancing competition, which was won by the American pair from the US.
